PUBLISHING AUTONOMY  

Self-publishing grants me the power to distribute my work on my terms—sponsoring copies when and to whom I choose, providing scholarships, and ensuring my book reaches those who need it most. This level of control is a privilege exclusive to self-publishing, where no gatekeepers dictate the narrative or limit access.  

In an era of increasing censorship, books like mine—deeply personal reflections of lived experience—would struggle to find a place within traditional publishing. I chose self-publishing as an act of full creative ownership, ensuring that my voice remains unfiltered, unedited by external forces, and free from erasure. For those of us with marginalized identities, self-publishing is not just a method—it's an act of autonomy, a refusal to be silenced, a declaration of empowerment, and a celebration of resistance against colonial and capitalist publishing systems.  

Traditional publishing often monetizes, censors, and claims ownership of our words. Choosing self-publishing is a radical act of sovereignty. I deliberately partnered with Books.by as my primary platform because it allows me to stay true to my purpose—ensuring my work remains in my hands, untouched by corporate control and extraction.  

That said, accessibility matters. To make my book widely available, I have also listed it on Amazon. However, I acknowledge that Amazon is part of the same capitalist machine that exploits and commodifies creativity while contributing to the decline of independent bookstores.
